Done it!!

So, while everyone else was digesting their Christmas meals and looking forward to Boxing Day TV, I got up at 7.30am to prepare myself for the great Boxing Day 10k.

I was driven to Poole by my lovely supporters (my mum and brother) and arrived in good time to start the race.

The weather was great and as I set off on the (what seemed like epic) run around the lakes in Poole, I tried to think of the brilliant support I've had from friends and family. The run itself was really hard (I never said I was a natural runner) and the other runners were mainly from running and athletics clubs. I was lapped twice (I think) by extremely fast runners, who completed the race in less than 30 minutes, but I eventually finished after about 1 hour.

It was very tough and I can't say I really enjoyed it, (especially as I ended up going the wrong way for a bit) but I did it! Reading the news and seeing that people in Sri Lanka have been comemmorating the third anniversary of the tsunami today has underlined for me why I put myself through it.

It was the culmination of about 12 weeks of training for me, which itself was difficult (think dark cold nights, minus temperatures in Edinburgh, an overwhelming desire to sit and drink mulled wine instead) but I knew I would do it.

I've been really impressed and flattered by the amount of support (both financial and otherwise) that people have given me through this process, and have raised about £750 in sponsorship doing the run. This will help me pay for the flights and vaccinations for Sri Lanka. Thank you so much to everyone that sponsored me and encouraged me to do this. 10k isn't that much for some people, but to me it was a marathon!

More blogging to come...
