Workshops and rice and curry

Just a quick entry with a bit of an update about work. Last week I ran my first workshop for staff on PR and Communications. I helped them think through some of the things that help when coming up with any form of communications, and ran exercises and activities to get people thinking about audience, key messages and different methods of communications. It was a good workshop, and I am now committed to delivering four more workshops in May and a series of individual training sessions - on issues from using MS Publisher (I'm no expert!) to writing news articles.

I am pleased to have achieved this, as persuading busy organisations like mine to focus on training and capacity building is not always easy. I hope that once Ive completed the training the organisation will be able to fill its own communications gap once I have left.

Here are some photos from the workshop.

The special school is about to move premises into the new building at the inclusive centre in Tangalla (which will be a one-stop shop for people with disabilities to access all types of service, from physiotherapy to prosthetics). To mark the occasion of moving out of their old building, the special school held a traditional alms giving ceremony for local monks. This is an event where people cook lots of rice and curry and give it to the monks who chant blessings to the people involved. It was my first time visiting one of these ceremonies and I found it a great experience.
